no matter how deeply I go down into myself
my God is dark, and like a webbing made
of a hundred roots, that drink in silence.
– RAINER MARIA RILKE
Day 42: A hundred roots, that drink in silence (Memory of Leioa)
now for a bit of audience partication… Have you got a favourite location, a special place, a secret beauty spot you’d like me to paint? A place that nourishes your soul. Where do you go to let your roots ‘drink in silence’? Or Is it a place right in the busyness and hubbub of the city where you derive your sense of oneness and connection to the flow? A cafe or a shop that you simply adore whiling away the hours, perhaps? I’m interested what the idea of sacred space has in our modern secular-ish world. Send me your suggestions (all suggestions must be easily accessible from Norwich by bike or public transport) and I will choose my favourite(s) as a subject for a painting over the coming week
