what you seek is seeking you – Rumi
Day 47: The Seeker
“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”
Words are powerful, more powerful often than we realise. In the world we live in people are often happier to dwell on the negatives, than embrace the positives.
Bad news sells newspapers and they say the Devil has the best tunes. The thing is with the stories we tell ourselves we build the house that is our live. We create what we believe to be possible, and so we will only really enjoy our lives to the degree that we are able to allow our selves to dream – and actually to open to the possibility that those dreams might come true! I think it’s often a case with us humans of ‘better the devil you know’ – we’d rather stay a little bit stuck because at least our stuckness is a known quantity; and we know in our hearts that the change we desire will also lead to us having to let go of other things- bad habits (whether of speech thought or deed), perhaps that we are attached to, even though we know they are not good for us. Sometimes – in fact I’d say, nearly always – getting out of your comfort zone only ever leads to good things happening. So, if you have something you have been wanting to do, but you’ve been holding back. Just take the first step. Every step you take towards your goals is reciprocated by some power in the universe which rewards fearless action, without thought of consequence, which acts in turn to bring those goals closer to fruition.
While we’re speaking of the Devil (having the best tunes), its time for a bit more interactive shenanigans. I’d like some suggestions of song lyrics (or poems) about or related to painting. here’s some ideas to get you thinking: ‘Paint it Black’ by the Rolling Stones, ‘Pictures of Lily’ by The Who, or that Barron Knghts song about Lowry. Be as creative and obscure, , or downright tenuous as you like. The point is to have a little fun with it. Looking forward to hearing your ideas, some of which I’ll share with you here – and I will make a new painting inspired by my favourite suggestion.
